Given Arthur's birth year, there were always going to be few official
records to refer to. Luckily, he appears in both the 1891 and 1901
censuses, which give an indication of the way his life may have headed.
In the 1891 he was aged 8, and living with his parents at the Staff of Life
beerhouse in Bramford Road, Ipswich. In the 1901 census, after his
father's death, Arthur is aged 18 and living with his mother in Claude Villas,
Bramford Road, Ipswich, and he is shown as a commercial clerk.
Arthur is a prime candidate for service in the First World War, as his age in
1914 would have been 31. A search has been carried out in the
Commonwealth War Graves Commission website to see if any clues can be found as
to whether he survived the war or not. There are two Arthurs
appearing on the site, so there is a possibility he may have died in the war.
Further research will be carried out on this and four possibilities that have
found concerning a possible marriage.
